Never forget a phone number again!

Some things just have to be learned off by heart. Pin numbers, phone numbers and exam data are some of the things you may have to commit to memory, and there's no easy way to get around it. There are, however, ways to make it more manageable and, hopefully, more effective.

Memoriser is a small program that aims to help you remember essential data. It's not very slick, but it does the job - you tell it what it is you need to learn and it tests you until you get it right. Memoriser is very easy to use. You create categories and questions and tell the program how often you want to be asked a question. You then minimize Memoriser to the taskbar and get on with your other work. Depending on what frequency you have chosen, a window will pop up and ask you the answer to one of your questions. Once you've answered correctly, the window disappears until the next scheduled question.

The maker of Memoriser tells us that the questions are picked based on how often you get them right, so it will ask you questions you get wrong more frequently. Memoriser is a basic but effective program, and can even be configured to open on start-up, which is perfect for when there is something specific that you need to learn ASAP. The window that pops up is configurable and can even beep to alert you to its presence. The only problem with Memoriser is that it was slightly buggy during testing and it was difficult to close the application at times.

If you are having problems memorizing something important, Memoriser can help you out.

PROS

  • Can be added to start-up
  • Warns you if you are getting an answer wrong

CONS

  • Slightly buggy
  • No import function for larger amounts of data
